Why it matters
A bride matched in August to her tanned overtone in a warm family is fine in August; in December, paler and sallow, the same shade is orange and a step too deep — the undertone did not change, the overtone did. The right process matches the family once (undertone) and the depth at the trial nearest the wedding (overtone), with correction for redness or sallowness done under the base rather than by choosing a pinker or yellower foundation. Olive
Olive is an undertone (a green-grey cast beneath golden skin) and is often misread as a sallow overtone. The difference: sallowness comes and goes; olive stays. A yellow-warm foundation on olive skin reads orange; a neutral-olive one disappears.
