The route

- Assist — a wedding season with an established artist: carrying, prepping, doing family faces, watching timelines and clients.
- Practise and photograph — trials, friends' and relatives' functions, shoots with a photographer, in daylight and flash.
- Build the kit in stages, from base to accents.
- Publish — a portfolio (Instagram and a simple site) of real faces, before-and-after, in real light, with consent.
- Take the first brides at a fee that reflects the stage; deliver on time; ask for photographs and referrals.

Ask any academy: how many real faces will I work on, in what range of skin tones, in what light, and who teaches — a working artist or not. Short courses can be excellent for a specific skill; a broad foundation takes longer. Assisting
The fastest education after the course. An assistant learns the timeline, the client, the kit under pressure, the touch-up, the family faces, and what a wedding morning actually costs in stamina. Reliability — early, prepared, quiet, clean — is what turns assisting into a recommendation. Expect to assist for a season before taking a bride alone.
The portfolio
Real faces, real light, consent. Before-and-after pairs. A range of skin tones and eye shapes. Daylight and flash photographs, because brides judge both. A few full bridal looks with outfit and jewellery, a few natural and soft-glam looks, one or two editorial. Update it every month; a stale portfolio reads as an idle artist. Never another artist's work; never heavy retouching that the real work cannot match.
The kit, in order
Base first (a shade range, correctors, concealers, powders, primers by type), brushes and sponges, then eyes (a neutral palette, liners, kajal, mascara, lashes and glue), lips (liners, a working range of reds, roses, nudes, berries), setting sprays, hygiene supplies, and only then the airbrush system and the specialist products. The first brides and pricing
Early bookings at a modest fee — clearly for a defined service, with a deposit, a written confirmation and a trial. Deliver on time, photograph the work, ask for a review and a referral. Fees rise with demand; discounting an established fee to win a booking trains the market. Packages (engagement + wedding + reception) and clear inclusions (trial, assistant, travel) prevent disputes.
